EHS&S
Reduce environmental footprint through increased efficiency and resource conservation
Baxter’s Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHS&S) organization manages and coordinates global programs and initiatives to advance the company’s EHS&S Vision, “To achieve a sustainable enterprise that creates stakeholder value by advancing superior environmental stewardship, the highest level of employee health and well-being, and an injury-free workplace.” The company’s EHS&S Policy outlines its commitment to its people, the environment and its stakeholders.
The foundation of Baxter’s EHS&S program is its Global EHS&S Requirements, which establish the minimum standards all facilities must meet and maintain. Baxter follows a management-systems approach guided by its global EHS&S requirements, applying ISO 14001 to systematically manage environmental aspects and OHSAS 18001 to properly manage hazards that pose risk to employees. The EHS&S audit process verifies that the company’s facilities have EHS&S programs that achieve regulatory compliance and meet Baxter’s EHS&S requirements, objectives and goals. Successful ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 audits verify that a facility's management system supports compliance with relevant regulations and company policy.
Baxter is committed to driving sustainability throughout its global manufacturing operations. It strives to use energy, water and raw materials efficiently, while reducing waste and greenhouse gas emissions. This improves the company’s environmental performance while saving money and enhancing Baxter’s reputation.
A significant part of Baxter’s environmental footprint is due to the products it designs, manufactures and sells worldwide. Reducing these impacts is a key focus for the company. Baxter’s Product Sustainability Program – in partnership with the R&D, marketing and supply chain groups – works to further embed product stewardship across the company.
